Our classic 6-day mountaineering skills course is the most comprehensive alpine training program in the Cordillera Blanca. Instructed by professional educators and talented alpine climbers, the curriculum we deliver and our “hands-on” approach takes participants of varying experience levels from A to Z, providing a sound foundation for understanding mountain risks, assessing them, and then acting in the most effective and efficient way to protect themselves and their team while climbing. The course takes place on Yanapaqcha, a less-trodden and wonderfully dynamic peak in the Llanganuco Valley, allowing students to spend the large majority of the course moving over actual glaciated terrain and practicing their skills in a “real life” setting. A summit attempt of the peak is scheduled for day 5, during which students are asked to run the ascent to whatever their ability level permits while the instructors shadow, mentor, and maintain the overall safety of the climb. Many students go on to climb additional peaks in the range following the course (with others of equal or greater experience), as contributing members of the climbing team and assets in most problem solving situations or crevasse rescue scenarios.
